Tuesday morning, and the light is already lying across the kitchen floor. Whatever sat up with you in the dark has to pick up its coat now. Go and stand by a window for a minute.
"For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning." — Psalm 30:5 (KJV)
This morning's prayer Father, the night was a guest, and now it is leaving. I felt it sit at my table. I heard it pacing the hallway. But it never owned this house. You do. Your anger is a moment, and your favour is a lifetime, and I am standing in the lifetime right now. Open the curtains in me. Put the damp pillow on the windowsill to dry. Where I am still tender, be gentle. Where I am glad, let me be gladly loud. Let me notice light on ordinary things today: a spoon, a doorknob, a face I love. I trust you with whatever the night could not finish. Amen.
Today, on purpose:
Open one window or curtain before touching my phone.
Say one cheerful thing out loud to someone today.
Notice three places where morning light lands, and thank God.
