Friday morning, and the light is coming in sideways across the floor. Hold still a moment before the errands start. Someone is humming in the next room, and the song is about you.
"The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing." — Zephaniah 3:17 (KJV)
This morning's prayer Lord, you are in the middle of me, and you are not worried. Thank you. I have heard plenty of voices already this morning, and mine was the loudest. Let me hear yours instead, low and steady, like a parent humming over a cradle. You say you will save, so I can put down the job of saving myself. You say you rejoice over me before I have done one useful thing. You rest in your love for me. Teach me to rest there too. Be mighty where I am small today. Put a song in my mouth that began in yours. Amen.
