Good Sunday morning. Somewhere close by, the air is cold and clean, and the day hasn't asked anything of you yet. Before it does, God has something to say, and it is kind.
"Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee." — Psalm 143:8 (KJV)
This morning's prayer Lord, I push the window up an inch and let the morning in. Let me hear your lovingkindness before I hear anything else. Before the list, before the phone, before my own voice starts running. I trust you. I don't understand all of today, but I trust you. Show me the way to walk: the next step, the next hour, the person in the pew behind me. I lift my soul to you the way I lift this window, with both hands, a little stiff, glad for the air. Speak kindness over me, and let me carry it into the singing, the handshakes, the crowded hallway, and the week still folded up ahead. Amen.
Today, on purpose:
Hear one kind word from God before touching my phone.
