Good morning, and happy Saturday. The kettle can wait a minute, and so can the list on the fridge. Somewhere in this quiet house, a song is already forming, so let it come.
"But I will sing of thy power; yea, I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning: for thou hast been my defence and refuge in the day of my trouble." — Psalm 59:16 (KJV)
This morning's prayer Lord, I will sing this morning. My voice is rough and my hair is flat on one side, but I will sing anyway. You have been my fortress. When trouble came knocking, you stood between me and the door. I remember the nights you held it shut. I remember the mornings you were still there afterward, steady as a stone wall warmed by the sun. So here is my song, Lord. It is about your strength and your mercy, and it is not fancy. Let it rise with the steam from my cup. Let it follow me out into the yard, down the street, and into whatever this Saturday holds. You have never once failed to be my shelter. Amen.
Today, on purpose:
Sing one song out loud before breakfast.
Name one trouble God already carried me through.
Offer someone shelter today: a meal, a ride, a kind word.
