Saturday has no alarm in it for some of you. The coffee is going, the light is lying across the floor, and nobody needs anything from you yet. Stay there a minute. Someone else is in the room.
"The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing." — Zephaniah 3:17 (KJV)
This morning's prayer Lord, you are in the middle of this house. You are not far off, and you are not hovering over the roof. You are here, by the kettle and the unmade bed and the pile of shoes at the door. You are mighty, and you are close, and I am glad to be small beside you. Save me today from the little panics, the rushing, the lists that bark. Rejoice over me, even though I have done nothing yet to earn it. Let me rest in your love the way a tired dog rests on a warm floor. Settle me. Then send me out, lighter, to the yard, the errands, the people I love. Amen.
Today, on purpose:
Notice God in one ordinary room before leaving it.
