Good Sunday morning. Think of an old man on an icy step, and the hand that quietly takes his elbow. That is the arm Isaiah is asking for, and it is already reaching toward you.
"O LORD, be gracious unto us; we have waited for thee: be thou their arm every morning, our salvation also in the time of trouble." — Isaiah 33:2 (KJV)
This morning's prayer Lord, be gracious to me this morning. Yesterday's strength is used up, and I'm glad, because You hand out a fresh arm every sunrise. Be that arm for me today. Steady me on the stairs, in the car, at the church door. Hold me up when I stand to sing and my voice wobbles. Be my arm in the hard conversation I've been rehearsing, and in the small chores nobody thanks me for. Where I'm tired, carry me. Where I'm strong, teach me to offer my elbow to someone slower. When trouble comes, You will already be beside me. You are my salvation, and I am glad of it. Amen.
Today, on purpose:
Take one person's arm today, literally or kindly.
Name one thing I can't carry, and set it down.
Sing at least one verse out loud, however it sounds.
