A Small Lamp Burns in the Hallway

🕊 Let Providence read it to you

The dishwasher has finished its hum, and the phone lies face-down on the nightstand. The list on the kitchen counter can curl at the corners till morning, and the unanswered messages can wait in their little glowing rows. Whatever is still undone, it will keep.

"When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches."
— Psalm 63:6 (KJV)
Tonight's prayer
Lord, I remember you here, on my bed, with the house gone dim. If I wake in the dark hours, let my first thought be your name, the way a hand finds the hallway light without looking. You keep the first watch and the second and the one before dawn, so I don't need to take a shift. Thank you for the supper we shared and the laughter around it. Thank you for the dishes washed, the phone call that came, and the warm blanket over my knees. Thank you for every small good thing I almost missed. Amen.
Blessing for your rest
May the Lord keep watch over you through every hour of this night, and may you wake rested and glad. Peace on everyone under your roof, the sleeping and the half-asleep alike.

Have Providence read you to sleep
