The dishes can sit in the sink, and the phone has said its last loud thing. The list on the counter will keep until morning, folded in its own quiet, and nobody is waiting on you to answer it. Let your shoulders drop an inch. Then drop them another.
"When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet." — Proverbs 3:24 (KJV)
Tonight's prayer Father, I turn the pillow over and find the cool side, and I take it as a small kindness from You. Thank You for the good things of this day: the warm mug, the laugh that caught me off guard, the light slanting through the kitchen at four o'clock. Whatever I carried in, I set down beside the bed. You promised I would lie down unafraid, so I lie down. Make my sleep sweet, heavy and plain as a quilt. Keep the doors, keep the hallway, and keep the people I love breathing slow in their rooms. Thank You for this bed, this quiet, and for You. Amen.
Blessing for your rest May the Lord who never sleeps keep watch over you and everyone under your roof tonight. May your dreams be gentle and your rest be deep, and may morning find you glad.
