Hear the last of the day settle: the dishwasher finishing its hum, the stairs resting after all their climbing. The unanswered messages and the half-folded laundry can wait where they are. Slide your feet beneath the cool sheet and let them stop.
"He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep." — Psalm 121:3-4 (KJV)
Tonight's prayer Lord, my feet are tired tonight. They climbed the stairs a dozen times and stood at the counter longer than they wanted. Now they rest against the cool sheet, and I let them be finished. You promised that my foot will not be moved, and tonight I believe it more than I did at noon. I don't have to hold the road together while I sleep. Keep the ones I love under this roof. Make my dreams soft and my rest deep. Thank you for small kindnesses today, for hands that held mine, for supper, for laughter, and for a bed that welcomes me home. Amen.
Blessing for your rest May the One who never slumbers keep your feet steady and your dreams gentle. Sleep well, and may every door in your house be watched over until morning.
