The dishes are still stacked by the sink, and the list on the counter has three lines you never crossed off. The phone has gone dark, the day's last voices have stopped, and the house is ticking softly as it cools. Whatever is still undone can wait in the cold hallway tonight.
"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." — Matthew 11:28 (KJV)
Tonight's prayer Lord Jesus, you said come, so I come. I'm carrying more than I can name, and some of it was never mine to carry. I set my boots by your door, mud and all. I hang my coat on your hook. The fields will still be there in the morning, and so will you. You said rest, and you didn't say earn it first. So I lie down like a worker whose pay is already counted out on the table. Thank you for the open door and the warm room. Thank you for this day, and for the morning you are already preparing. Amen.
Blessing for your rest May the Lord who calls you in leave the porch light burning over you and every sleeping soul under your roof. Goodnight, dear one. Rest is waiting, and it is yours.
