Fold the Day and Lay It Away

🕊 Let Providence read it to you

The dishwasher is humming its last cycle, and the phone is face down on the nightstand. The list on the fridge still has three lines uncrossed, and they will keep until daylight. Let your shoulders drop an inch. The day is done being asked of you.

"Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof."
— Matthew 6:34 (KJV)
Tonight's prayer
Father, I fold this day tonight, corners matched, and set it on the shelf. You gave me just enough of it, and just enough of Yourself to carry it. What I left unfinished I leave where it is, like a coat over a chair. Tomorrow is still wrapped, and I'm glad You will open it before I do. You are already standing in that morning, with new strength measured out and waiting. Let me sleep like a child who knows the table will be set when she wakes. Thank You for the small mercies of this day, for the people under this roof, and for the quiet settling over me now. Amen.
Blessing for your rest
Goodnight, dear one. May the Lord who holds tomorrow keep you and everyone under your roof, and wake you gently to a morning already prepared.

Have Providence read you to sleep
