Joshua stood at the edge of a land he had never seen. Moses, the only leader he had ever followed, was gone. Before him lay rivers, walls, and unknown roads. Into that moment, God spoke a question that sounds almost tender: "Have not I commanded thee?" Courage here is not a mood to wait for. It is an invitation to answer the One who has already spoken.
Notice the reason God gives. He doesn't say, "Be brave because you are capable." He says, "for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest." That word "whithersoever" is wonderfully wide. It covers the new job, the hard conversation, the waiting room, the unfamiliar town, and the morning you don't feel ready. There is no place on your map where God is absent. More than that, the places you are nervous to enter are not new to Him. He is already there, waiting.
So today, courage may look small and quiet. It may be a phone call you make, a yes you finally give, or a step you take while your hands still tremble. You don't have to feel fearless. You only have to move forward in the company of the One who goes before you and walks beside you.
