Jesus does not only say, "Come unto me." In the very next breath he adds, "Take my yoke upon you." That may sound like more work, but a yoke is made for two. In a farmer's field, a young ox was often paired with a seasoned one, and the stronger animal carried the weight while the younger simply walked beside it and learned the rhythm.
That is the invitation. Rest does not mean the work disappears. It means you stop pulling alone. The tasks on your list, the people you love, and the questions you can't answer yet can all be carried in step with someone who is gentle and humble in heart. He sets a pace you can keep, and he never rushes you.
Today, notice where you have been straining forward as if everything depended on you. Slow down and fall into step with Christ. Ask him which load is yours and which is his. You may find that your shoulders drop, your breath deepens, and the road ahead looks friendlier than it did. His yoke is easy, and his burden is light. Walk beside him, and let joy keep you company.
