Two Small Letters Hold Heaven's Whole Heart

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
— John 3:16 (KJV)

It is easy to read right past the smallest word in John 3:16. "For God so loved the world." Just two letters, yet this little word is the hinge on which the whole verse swings. It doesn't say God loved a little, or loved carefully, or loved from a distance. It says he loved so much that words alone could not hold it, and the rest of the sentence rushes in to show us how much.

The answer isn't a feeling or a slogan. It is a Son, freely given. God's love is measured not by what he says, but by what he was willing to give. Then comes another wonderfully open word: "whosoever." There is no entry exam, no list of qualifications, no fine print. Your name fits inside that word, and so does the name of everyone you will meet today. To believe in him is to receive life that never runs out, a life that begins right now and reaches into forever.

So carry that small word with you today. When you wonder whether you are loved enough, whether you have done enough, or whether God is smiling at you, let the answer be one syllable: so. You are loved that much. Let that joy make you a little lighter, a little kinder, and a little quicker to share the good news.

Today's prayer
Father, thank you for loving me so much that you gave your very own Son. Fill my heart with joy today, and let that joy spill over to everyone I meet. In Jesus' name, amen.
