It is easy to read "I shall not want" and feel a small tug of disagreement. Most of us want plenty: more rest, more answers, more certainty about tomorrow. But David is not claiming to be a man without desires. He is making a quiet, confident statement about who is looking after him. Because the LORD is his shepherd, nothing he truly needs will ever be out of reach.
A sheep does not draw up a plan for finding pasture or keep watch over the horizon all night. It simply stays close to the one who knows the way. That is where the peace in this verse comes from. David does not say, "I have everything." He says, "The LORD is my shepherd." The sufficiency is found in a Person, not in a pile of provisions.
Today, try something simple. Name two or three things you have been wanting lately, and hold them out to God honestly. Then name three ways the Shepherd has already cared for you this week: a meal, a kind word, a morning you woke up able to begin again. Let gratitude settle your heart. The One who leads you has not lost track of you, and He has not run short of goodness. You can walk into today with open hands and a lighter step.
