Think about the last time someone handed you a gift you could never repay. Maybe you felt the urge to hurry and give something back, to even the score. Paul tells us that salvation is not that kind of exchange. It is grace from beginning to end, a gift God delights to give, and our only part is to open our hands in faith.
That is wonderfully freeing. We do not have to earn our place at God's table or keep a running tally of good deeds to stay there. Faith itself is not a achievement to be proud of, because even that, Paul says, is part of the gift. The boasting is gone, and in its place comes a quiet, steady gratitude. You are loved before you perform, and held before you prove anything.
And when we live from that gift, good works flow naturally, just as the next verse says. We serve not to be accepted but because we already are. Today, let go of the weight of trying to deserve what has already been freely given. Receive it again with joy, and let thankfulness shape how you treat the people in front of you. The gift is yours, and it is enough.
