Rising On Winds You Did Not Make

"But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."
— Isaiah 40:31 (KJV)

Eagles are masters of a quiet secret. Instead of flapping hard to climb, they stretch their wings wide and wait for warm air to rise from the earth. Then they are lifted higher than effort alone could ever carry them. Isaiah gives us this picture of those who wait upon the Lord: they mount up with wings as eagles, carried by something greater than themselves.

Waiting on God is not the same as doing nothing. It is open-handed trust. It means we stop straining to manufacture our own strength and turn toward the One who gives it freely. When we pray, listen, and rest in His promises, we spread our wings and let His Spirit do what we could never do. The word renew means to exchange, so our tired strength is traded for His fresh strength.

Notice, too, that the promise reaches every kind of day. Some days we soar, some days we run, and many days we simply walk. God honors them all. The steady walk, one faithful step after another, is no lesser gift than flight. Today, spread your wings, take a deep breath, and trust that the wind of His grace is already rising beneath you. You are held, you are lifted, and you will not faint.

Today's prayer
Lord, thank You that I do not have to climb on my own strength. Teach me to wait on You with a glad and trusting heart, and lift me on the wind of Your Spirit today. I rejoice that You renew me for every step. Amen.
