Peter doesn't tell us to pretend we have no worries. He assumes we do, and he gives us somewhere to take them. The word "casting" is a strong one. It describes a deliberate toss, like a traveler heaving a heavy bag into the arms of someone waiting to carry it. Our cares were never meant to be hauled around all day and held at arm's length.
Notice the reason Peter gives: "for he careth for you." We don't give God our concerns because we've found the right technique. We give them because he is tender toward us. The One who hung the stars notices the small, specific things that press on your heart today, whether it's a conversation you dread, a bill that's due, or a loved one you can't fix. None of it is too small to bring to him.
Try this today. When a worry surfaces, name it out loud, or in a quiet whisper, and say, "Lord, this is yours now." You may need to do it again an hour later, and that's fine. Casting is something we practice, and each time we do it, we learn a little more that his hands are steady and that he is glad to hold what we hand over.
