Sunday morning has its own hush. The church clothes are waiting on the chair, and a stripe of sunlight has just reached the floor. Step into it before you reach for anything else.
"O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days." — Psalm 90:14 (KJV)
This morning's prayer Lord, I am up early, and I come empty-handed on purpose. Fill me before the phone does, before the list does, before the voices start asking things of me. Satisfy me with your mercy the way the sun fills this room, quietly and all the way to the corners. I don't want to scrape together my own gladness today. Give it to me, and let it overflow where others can reach it. Let me laugh easily. Let me sing off-key in the pew and not mind. Let me notice a child's shoelaces, an old man's hat, the smell of coffee in the church hall. You have been good to me for so long. Start the day with mercy, and I will gladly follow it. Amen.
Today, on purpose:
Sit in the light for one full minute before moving.
Greet one person at church by name, with real warmth.
