Friday morning, and a sparrow is already on the fence wire, singing as if the sun were its own idea. Pull your chair close to the window. Let the bird teach you the tune.
"But I will sing of thy power; yea, I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning: for thou hast been my defence and refuge in the day of my trouble." — Psalm 59:16 (KJV)
This morning's prayer Lord, before the light is fully up, I want to sing. Badly, maybe. Loudly, yes. You have been my high wall before. I remember the hospital hallway, the bill I could not cover, the phone call at midnight, and You were already standing there. Your power held. Your mercy found me. So this morning I will not whisper. I will sing about the strong arm that carried me and the gentle hand that never let go. Whatever comes today, I know where the refuge is, and I know the door opens from the inside. Thank You for being sturdy. Thank You for being kind. Let my voice be the first sound in this house. Amen.
