Good morning, Wednesday. The week has a little dust on its shoes by now, and the weekend is still a ways off. But the blanket was warm, your lungs kept working all night, and somebody was keeping watch while you slept.
"To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night." — Psalm 92:2 (KJV)
This morning's prayer Lord, you worked the night shift and I never noticed. While I slept, you kept the house, the street, the people I love. Your faithfulness didn't clock out once. Now the gray window is turning gold, and here is your lovingkindness, fresh as the first slice of bread. I didn't earn it. I just woke up inside it. So let me show it forth today, the way the psalmist says. Let my face, my voice, and my small chores say that you are kind and you are true. When the afternoon drags, remind me who held the night. When evening comes, I'll tell it again. Amen.
Today, on purpose:
Say one kind thing out loud before nine o'clock.
Thank someone who works quietly behind the scenes.
