The day was loud, and you carried it well. The grocery list is still half-written, a phone call waits unreturned, and a basket of laundry sits unfolded by the door. None of it needs to follow you into the field tonight.
"He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters." — Psalm 23:2 (KJV)
Tonight's prayer Shepherd, you know I don't lie down easily. Sheep don't either, until they are fed and unafraid and the flies have gone. So settle me the way you settle them. Spread the green grass under me, cool and soft. Walk me to water where nothing ripples, where the whole sky can rest on the surface without breaking. Whatever I carried in today, I leave at the edge of the pasture. I don't have to count the hours or rehearse tomorrow. You are awake, and that is enough. Thank you for grass, for quiet water, for the staff within reach, and for the goodness that followed me all day long. Amen.
Blessing for your rest Goodnight, dear one. May the Shepherd lay every soul under your roof down in green grass, and keep watch beside the still water until morning.
