Return, Little Soul, the Table Is Set

🕊 Let Providence read it to you

The day's last noise is draining out of you like water from a bathtub, slow and a little gurgling. The list on the counter can stay a list. Nobody is checking it tonight, and the pen is capped.

"Return unto thy rest, O my soul; for the LORD hath dealt bountifully with thee."
— Psalm 116:7 (KJV)
Tonight's prayer
Lord, my soul has been out walking all day, and it's tired and dusty. Tonight I call it home. Let it come in the way a child comes in from the yard, shoes in hand, cheeks warm, ready for the quilt. You have dealt bountifully with me. You gave me bread, and a roof, and a few faces I love. You gave me mercy before I ever asked for it. I don't need to count it all tonight. I just want to rest inside it. Hold my sleeping hours the way you held the morning. Thank you for every good thing, the noticed and the unnoticed. Amen.
Blessing for your rest
May the Lord who has been so generous with you give you deep, unhurried sleep tonight, and may he keep every soul under your roof in the same warm quiet. Goodnight, dear one. Sweet dreams.

Have Providence read you to sleep
