The dishwasher has finished its long hum, and the phone is face-down on the nightstand. The list on the counter can keep its uncrossed lines until morning, and the shoes by the door can stay where they landed. Whatever clattered today has gone quiet now.
"I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety." — Psalm 4:8 (KJV)
Tonight's prayer Lord, I am lying down, and You are the one who holds me. The mattress holds my weight, the floor holds the bed, the house holds the floor, and the whole good earth rests in Your hands. I don't have to hold anything up tonight. The dishes can wait. The list can wait. Tomorrow already has Your name on it, and morning is coming with mercies I haven't met yet. Let me sleep like a child with a father down the hall. Let me wake glad. Thank You for this bed, this roof, these people, and every kindness that found me today. Amen.
Blessing for your rest The Lord who keeps you safe keep you and everyone under your roof, down to the last sleeping head. Sleep deep, wake glad, and may morning find you rested and loved.
