The dishwasher is still ticking as it cools. The laundry sits warm in its basket, half folded, and three messages wait on a dark phone. Let them wait, because the Shepherd has already decided this day is finished.
"He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters." — Psalm 23:2 (KJV)
Tonight's prayer Good Shepherd, you know I would keep walking if you let me. So thank you for being firm and kind about it. You said lie down, and I am lying down, shoes off, shoulders sinking into the mattress. I don't have to earn this grass. I only have to stay where you've put me. Quiet the lists that circle like gnats. Slow my breathing to match the water you lead me beside. Whatever is unfinished, you can carry into the morning, and you carry it better than I do. Tonight I am one of yours, fed and counted and safe. Thank you for the soft ground and for the gentle hand that set me down. Amen.
Blessing for your rest Goodnight, dear one. May the Shepherd count every head under your roof and find each one resting.
