The dishes can stay in the rack, and the last email can stay unanswered. The pencil on the counter has earned its rest beside the list, which grew three lines today. Let the hallway clock tick on without you.
"I will bless the LORD, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons." — Psalm 16:7 (KJV)
Tonight's prayer Lord, I bless you tonight. You counseled me all day long, and I was too busy to hear half of it. Now the house is settling, the pillow is cool, and my heartbeat keeps its patient time. Teach me in the deep places while I sleep. Fill the well in me that I drained today. The knots I could not untie, I hand to you, and I trust you to loosen them by morning without my help. Thank you for this bed, for this slow breath, and for a God who goes on teaching me gently in the dark.
Blessing for your rest May the Lord instruct your heart in the quiet hours and fill you up while you sleep. Goodnight to you and everyone under your roof, and may you wake to fresh water and a bright morning.
