Fruit Grows Slowly, Sweetly, By His Spirit

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law."
— Galatians 5:22-23 (KJV)

Fruit is a quiet kind of miracle. No apple tree has ever strained to produce an apple. It simply stays rooted, drinks in the rain, and welcomes the sun, and in its season the fruit comes. Paul chooses this picture on purpose. The things we most long to become, loving, joyful, peaceful, patient, kind, are not trophies we win by sheer effort. They are the natural harvest of a life connected to the Spirit of God.

Notice, too, that Paul says fruit, singular, not fruits. Love, joy, peace, and all the rest are like sections of one ripening orange, belonging together. As the Spirit works in you, you may find patience growing in the same soil where joy is deepening. Some days the growth feels invisible, and that is fine. Roots do their best work underground. Every morning you spend with God, every small prayer, every moment of choosing gentleness over irritation, is water for the tree.

So be encouraged today. You are not behind, and you are not failing to produce. You are a branch, and the Vine is faithful. Stay close, rest in His care, and let the sweetness come in its own good time. Others will taste it before you even notice it has grown.

Today's prayer
Lord, thank You for planting Your Spirit within me and for growing good fruit in me at Your own gentle pace. Help me to stay rooted in Your love today, and let joy and kindness flow naturally to everyone I meet. In Jesus' name, Amen.
