Face the phone down on the nightstand and let the messages wait in their small glowing rows. The grocery list can stay stuck to the fridge, and the unanswered email can sit in the dark without you. Your breathing is already slowing, and the day is almost done with you.
"He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep." — Psalm 121:3-4 (KJV)
Tonight's prayer Lord, I am lying down, and You are not. You walk the wall tonight with a lantern, checking every gate. You know the roads I have to take tomorrow, and You will not let my footing slip. I cannot keep watch over my own life, and I do not have to. The door is locked, and You are keeping the key. You never nod off over the people I love. So I will close my eyes like a child who hears her father's steps in the hall. Thank You for staying awake so that I can sleep. Thank You for a good day, a warm bed, and a faithful Keeper. Amen.
Blessing for your rest May the One who never slumbers keep watch over you and everyone beneath your roof tonight. Sleep deep, wake rested, and find His mercies new at the window.
