The phone is face down now, and the last email can wait with the others. The grocery list is still on the counter with two items uncrossed, and the laundry is still warm in the basket. Pull the blanket up to your chin and let all of it be somebody else's problem until morning.
"I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety." — Psalm 4:8 (KJV)
Tonight's prayer Lord, I lay myself down. That much I can do, and I do it gladly. The rest is Yours. I can't make a single wall around this night, and I don't have to. You alone make me safe. So I let my shoulders sink and my jaw loosen. I let my hands lie open on the quilt. Whatever I forgot today, You remember. Whoever I worried over, You hold. Keep watch over the people sleeping under this roof, and over the ones I love who sleep far away. Let my dreams be soft and my breathing slow. Thank You for this bed, for this warmth, for every breath You've counted out to me today. Thank You that I wake up Yours. Amen.
Blessing for your rest May the Lord who never sleeps keep watch over you and everyone under your roof tonight. Rest deep, wake glad, and know you were safe the whole night through.
